A new apartment, but not quite finished

When I design, I think a lot about sightlines - what you see from one space into the next, what's revealed, and what stays out of frame. In this apartment, a wall was blocking the view between the kitchen and living room - and the little light that managed to enter the space.

In existing apartments, the placement of the living room and dining nook often doesn't match the flow I want to create. The decision to take the wall down, together with a precisely placed kitchen, opened up the space and the view, and gave the apartment a soft, monochromatic palette that feels calm from the entrance all the way to the living room.

The entrance closet was designed to serve for storage and everyday organizing, but also as an inseparable part of the shared space - not as a separate addition to it. Its veneer fronts continue the kitchen's materiality, and a custom light fixture with two adjustable heads completes this corner.
